E-Class W212 Dashboard Squeak
2016 E220D 36K.
Best advice in locating/fixing a seriously annoying dashboard squeak? Of the type you cannot live with.
Sounds like it's inside the dash, but from behind the actual gauges themselves. Nothing loose or obvious topside, have looked/checked behind command screen, top dash grills, centre speaker grill, front dash pieces, clock...
Applying pressure all over the various pieces does nothing. Have a pano roof but solid are far as I can tell.
Checked out the engine bay side, no obvious issues under the scuttle etc.
Does the gauge console have a known problem?
Wits' end with this one?? Main dealer has spent a fair bit of time of the problem (so they tell me). Nothing.

process of elimination
have you tried to drive with the trim pieces removed to narrow it down a bit?
Is it center, left, right, high, low, high....
I recall seing an investigative customer form to help trace these issues. Look up the TSB's for your car shoukd bring it up.

Have taken all the trim off the dash and driven it...not a single difference
have removed all the command screen and the gauge cluster and driven it....still no difference
The noise is deep down in the dash somewhere but nothing is visible.
I’m concerned it could be something in the heater box etc I.e. such a massive job to resolve

One thing I've noticed about my bluetec, and other former diesels (W210 E300, 2 W126 300SDs), is that the resonance of the diesel engines at idle can cause all sorts of unwanted rattle/buzzing sounds, especially as the car ages. A former coworker of mine actually got rid of his jetti TDI for that exact reason.
