collision avoidance disable warning

today I drove cross town, and for a good part of the way, a yellow warning message was up about collision avoidance plus system wasn't working. after I got home, I turned the car back on, and that message was erased

any idea what might trigger that? this was on our 2016 E350 4matic wagon with 35000 miles. it doesn't have the fancy distronic system, nor the 360 camera, just the rear camera, and basic ESD and warning stuff. supposedly it will slam on the brakes if it thinks you are in imminent danger of running into something at high speed.

Apparently you have the option based on short-range radar.
I have it too and so far, I have not physically located these sensors. It is likely sensitive to water intrusion and solderless connector like the rear blind-spots modules.

On the software side, check your applicable TSB list.
In MY'14 there is an issue with "cross traffic sensor warns without any apparent cause". It goes on to say the "factory initialization loaded the wrong set of values...".

It will be interesting to figure what exactly caused your issue : Glitch, Water, SW.
I side with No1.

+++++++ Anti-collision ....
There are different flavors of this anti-collison radar feature, entirely separate from DistronicPlus long-range radar.

Some have single sensor, some dual pucks similar to the BlindSpot, nested under the front bumper skin.

Yes, I would make sure there is no dirt or insect splat on the forward sensors.

Exactly , this is what I would say as well.
It did happen to me on my stupid BMW when I was in a torrential rain .The car jumped on the brakes even there was no other car around .Sensors visibility is a must I think

SGR Radar faults...

Have a look at your SGR module for recuring faults Current/Stored as a source of iCluster messages

collision sensors disturbance
These short-range radars work in ultra-high RF frequencies between 15 and 20GHz away from any other civilian devices.

Distronic is on a separate band of frequency to prevent overlap.

The same happened to me last week, during a downpour on the Interstate in Oklahoma. A pickup truck hauling a flatbed trailor kicked up the worst rooster tail in my face, in addition to the rain. So -- for the first time ever -- I got the "Radar sensors are dirty" (or some such) message. No braking action, thankfully, and happened only once. Sensors were as clean as a whistle by the time I arrived in Dallas.
