collision avoidance disable warning

any idea what might trigger that? this was on our 2016 E350 4matic wagon with 35000 miles. it doesn't have the fancy distronic system, nor the 360 camera, just the rear camera, and basic ESD and warning stuff. supposedly it will slam on the brakes if it thinks you are in imminent danger of running into something at high speed.

I have it too and so far, I have not physically located these sensors. It is likely sensitive to water intrusion and solderless connector like the rear blind-spots modules.
On the software side, check your applicable TSB list.
In MY'14 there is an issue with "cross traffic sensor warns without any apparent cause". It goes on to say the "factory initialization loaded the wrong set of values...".
It will be interesting to figure what exactly caused your issue : Glitch, Water, SW.
I side with No1.

+++++++ Anti-collision ....
There are different flavors of this anti-collison radar feature, entirely separate from DistronicPlus long-range radar.
Some have single sensor, some dual pucks similar to the BlindSpot, nested under the front bumper skin.

It did happen to me on my stupid BMW when I was in a torrential rain .The car jumped on the brakes even there was no other car around .Sensors visibility is a must I think

collision sensors disturbance
These short-range radars work in ultra-high RF frequencies between 15 and 20GHz away from any other civilian devices.
Distronic is on a separate band of frequency to prevent overlap.
