2013 e550 4matic. This may be because the turbos are still spoiled up but this is my first Mercedes and first bi turbo car so im not sure. After a hard acceleration when I let off the gas it seems to take quite a while to change into the next gear so it sounds as if the revs just hang there for a few seconds before deciding to change into the next gear. Hopefully that makes sense? Is it normal?

You mean on downshifts as you slow down?
How many miles on your car and has the transmission fluid been changed?

Let’s say I get on the gas pedal hard from 2nd into 3rd gear and the RPMs are high and I let off the pedal totally when RPMs are for example 5600rpm, it just holds the rev and doesn’t up or downshift for a couple of seconds. Then it’ll shift and drives normal after.

It has 41000 miles and im not sure about the trans fluid, I just recently bought this car.

It is indeed in Sport mode. Concerning that yours doesn’t do it, guess I’ll need to investigate more. Thank you

This place is a joke.
Normal. The transmission is ready for aggresive driving and holds the gear longer.

It suppose to upshift in this situation.
Those transmissions have adaptive programs and adapt to driving style. That happen faster than some might realize. I was using manual shifter for engine braking coming from steep hills. 5 minutes of such driving and the transmission would hold low gears for following miles of flat drving.

Yes - my 2015 E400 also does that. When you jump on it and hold a gear to high RPM's, then abruptly let off the throttle completely, the engine speed just hangs up there. It thinks you are going to get back onto the gas and keep going aggressively. It can't "understand" that you really just want to blend back into traffic. . .

When I highly admire "German engineering" when it comes ot MB software programs, too often I have to ask myself. "what those guys smoke for breakfast?".
My GLE is having 200 HP diesel I4 engine. Even it is lovely engine, moving heavy vehicle on 4 cylinders takes some time and I think for that reason the software will redline the engine on 1st gear, even when I just touch gas pedal. Often I am in heavy traffic and I have to step on brake as the result. CRAZY.
It is what it is and learn to deal with it.
Letting the gas off 1000 rpm before redline comes to mind.

Mine is identical. I just use the paddles to get it back to normal (or just wait).
