retrofit luxury grille on a sport facelift ?

My mother owns a 2016 W212 in the sport trim and she hates not having the traditional look and upright star. I thought it might be a nice gesture for me to retrofit the luxury grille and replace the badge with a star. She doesn't have distronic, so is it just as simple as swapping one grille for another? I'm hoping there's not much to it (like the bumper cover coming off).

the grill surround is different, and so is the whole bumper cover and lower stuff

I'll have to dig through the parts catalog to see if that body colored surround on the 'sports' is a separate part.

we had to hunt long and hard to find a 2016 'luxury' wagon, in the end we found only ONE in the whole country for sale at an out of state dealer as a CPO. We're /very/ happy we did, its ride is so much smoother.

Then go to the dealer and buy an upright star she can see from the driver's seat. You might think she doesn't like the grill, but she might not care at all.

An upright star is cheap... an entire facelift is not, or easy. Not to mention that a luxury front on an otherwise Sport Package will affect resale value.

Exclamation its very hard.

not only do you have to take off the entire front bumper you have to take out each factory-placed rivet, and re-rivet them. the grille itself, get it from MB or someone reputable, not eBay. from eBay the grille will always fit a little wrong. take it to a shop for sure.

I'm not trying to do a facelift. The silhouette of the grille is identical regardless of the bumper cover.

Thank you, it would be all OEM. If I have to take the bumper off, so be it.

I'm not remotely convinced that the grilles are "identical" based on several previous threads on this topic.

I understand the surrounds on both versions are riveted in place. And as LCG pointed out, the lux grille surround is different.

If she just wants the star on the hood, couldn't you just pop off the flat one and install the upright ornament?

You can add the hood ornament easily, just remove the flat badge and replace it with the star. I agree, I love that star. Also, instead of replacing the sport grille with a factory luxury which will not fit without major front end changes, you can get an aftermarket grille, made for the sport that will fit without modifying the front end, there are many available without the big star logo in the middle, just bars, so it would look more like the luxury, albeit not identical. but somewhat close.

Two stars is tacky tacky tacky. One big star is tacky enough (and I have one on mine)

I like chrome lips surrounding the car in the Avantgarde models and for this reason alone I would prefer sport grill over the luxury one . Alternatively , you should be considering AMG vertical grills . I forgot its official name sorry but trust me it's the better than sport grill .

Yeah, the grille is a similar shape. But it ends there.

You'll have to replace the front bumper to get what you want. The sport grille has a body colored, molded-into-the-whole-bumper, grille surround. The luxury grille is its own thing, and there is no surround molded in. They are not interchangeable at all.

I really wanted this, too. I swapped my previous W204 cars to the luxury grilles rather easily.

I’ve searched all over but have been unable to find an aftermarket grille for the sport without the star logo. Do you have any links?

Any pointers appreciated!

If anyone knows who makes this, we'd be set.
