It was an option for my '12, I think hardly anyone ordered it, I hear this a lot and am told that heated steering wheels were not offered, I have one!

There are a lot of things that were different in the US/Canadian market for these cars. The premium package for the E class in Canada includes rear heated seats, whereas in the US it was in some other package that the overwhelming majority didn't option out. The 550/63 variants in Canada also come standard with rear climate controls for a third zone of settings. I haven't seen that option in the US, but correct me if I'm wrong. The US also has a completely separate package for the 360 camera/front and rear parking sensors that are in the Canadian premium package.

Yes it was. I tried to jump on a Canadian import E400 before I found mine because it had that option and I thought it would be cool to have something different. Someone beat me to it!

pretty good set of US sales brochures fo each model and year going back 15 or so years... these list all the option packages US models offered
https://www.auto-brochures.com/mercedes-benz.html
in 2016, heated rear seats were only an option on the E63S. heated steering wheel was an option on the E350/E400 if and only if they had the Premium package, and was only available with the round non-wood and non-sports wheel,

is there a particular hand cream she uses? thats what typically destroys leather.
and the fix for that is Wheelskins. I use the leather ones cuz they really do feel better, and when /that/ rots you cut off the stitching and put on a new one. heh. My old pickup truck had a vinyl cover on its ancient plastic steering wheel, and that lasted longer than I wanted to drive that 1965 F100

2010 E350 4Matic sedan
my local guy where I had my remote starter installed also had a bunch of heating elements on-hand. So he took my rear bench up, installed 3 bottom and back heaters and then wired them up to the back of the center console. He put the 3 switches, all with hi and lo settings, in the ashtray. While he was in there he added 3 USB charging outlets. So now my 3 kids stay warm back there while being able to charge their devices.

Hmm.. I thought that timer was more so you didn't accidentally overheat yourself. If it's under 60 degrees out I basically keep mine on the highest setting. Every time it dials itself down a notch, I turn it back up. I did that on my W211 too (mb tex) and now my 212 (leather). So far the only thing I've really noticed is the strength of the seat heater lessens over time. Do you have any more information regarding the potential to damage the seat coverings?
