Broken air intake left side

Hi folks - the air intakes run up both sides of the E550 engine to the front - if one of the hoses "breaks" and is now drawing air from above the manifold, will this cause a misfire and/or weird performance issues? I ask because when its cold it runs fine, when it gets hot the mileage drops like a tart's knickers. (And the scanner reported a misfire on #3 when it was running weird)

I doubt you’d get misfires, but you could definitely get increased intake temps. Will lower mpg, shouldn’t be a lot

All I know is it gets worse mileage than advertised and with the AC on it gets about 15 mpg. I am going to drive around some tonight and see if sealing up the holes in the intake and cleaning the filters makes a diff. :-) I did realize that the middle hose to the rear filter shroud was off (I think it goes to the EVAP unit), so I am not sure how bad a situation that creates.

That IS a problem. Cracked cold air ducts are not. Those cheap air ducts are always cracked on older M278's. No big deal. Higher IAT's isn't really an issue on boosted cars. If you're M273 rather than M278 however, then you're NA and would probably benefit from cooler intake temps.

Open vacuum ports in the intake manifold are your problem. You're MAP sensors don't like it, and that's why you're misfiring and getting ****ty gas mileage.

They were not cracked per se, 3 inches of the right side was missing right at the shroud intake so it was sucking hot air on one side and "cold" from the other. ( I put "cold" in quotes but this is Las Vegas. )

I checked all the vacuum hoses, everything is tip top and I don't see any codes indicating this.

What it does now is as soon as I start it, while sitting there, it drops to 13 mpg from 19. If I reset it once I am driving it is better as I can avg 19 around town and just over 20 on the freeway. The silver bracket that clips the back of the intake shroud came off, would that cause this? The connection seems tight without it.

Mine also broke when I changing the oil filter. They have aftermarket aluminum tubes that aren't as flimsy, but are more expensive and harder to take off.
