Cam plug teeth?

Have replaced the two small cam plugs. Found some debris when the cam plug (right side, see pics) have been removed.

(The debris cannot be removed even sprayed with contact cleaner)

(Location of the cam plug /// not my engine)

I don't know what it is and would guess that is the teeth of the old cam plug which have been "eaten" by the camshaft. Any ideas, friends??

Yeah sorta looks like a tooth from the plug broke off, presumably because the plastic was old and brittle. Is it a chunk or a melted blob? It looks like you could just pop it out with a pick or small screwdriver.

gasket sealant

head assembly gasket

not a problem, it's just the factory black RTV sealant between the engine head at bottom and the camshafts cover at the top.

OP's car is a 2010 so it's an M272 but I think you're right, it may just be RTV or gasket material.

Thanks both!

I see. Not worry now, and will go for the oil drip pan replacement when new tools arrive...
