Gas pedal kick-down switch
Do our W212s have a kick-down switch in/behind the gas pedal? I was trying to do the transmission adaptation reset and most tutorial videos noted the kick-down switch click when fully depressing the gas pedal. Mine has no audible or tactile click when pressing down firmly all the way on the gas pedal. I’ve also noticed no difference after performing the transmission adaptation reset procedure.

The "switch" on my W211 was nothing more than a clicky thing at the bottom of the pedal travel to give the accelerator the feel of a switch. There was nothing electrically or mechanically connected to it at all, it was but a tactile generator. The accelerator pedal position sensor does the work. Any bets they saved a few dimes and deleted the clicky thing on newer models?

After checking a few more times my gas pedal definitely does not have any discernable click at the bottom of the pedal travel, even with overpressure. When I stomp down the gas pedal, it definitely seems like the car downshifts. Wonder if there is an issue with the kick down switch and if I should replace it. Throttle seems a little touchy when starting from a stop, but otherwise feels ok.

My older Benz'a had this, my '12 and '13 E's don't
I stand corrected, there is a detent in pedal at WOT, BUT, it is not a physical button that the pedal itself pushes on like the older cars.

What kind of cars do you guys have? 😂😂 I'm not saying your wrong, but my throttle body definitely doesn't have a cable attached to it and my 2013 has it

My 2015's both most definitely have a discernible "click" at the bottom of accelerator travel. Haven't looked to see what makes the click, though. It could be a separate button, could be something built into the pedal pivot, etc.
Anyone with access to parts diagrams watching this thread?

But the confusion may come from in the older Benz's there was an actual round switch mounted behind the gas pedal, it is gone, but the detent remains.

At WOT in my car I’m hanging on as it makes one hell of a noise letting everyone know I’m coming. Never even knew the pedal clicked. Lol

I was wrong, checked this morning and both cars do have a detent at WOT, guess I'm just too old to push the pedal down that far, LOL

Theres always a little fun to be had pushing your foot through the floor. Props for admitting you were mistaken, many people don't have the ability to do that.

There's no kickdown switch on newer cars. There's an accelerator pedal position sensor that knows where the pedal is, from 0% to 100% of travel, at all times. There's a clicky that FEELS like a switch, but it does absolutely nothing else but tell the driver there's no more travel.
Older cars with a mechanical connection (cable) from the pedal to the engine's throttle body employed an electric switch to tell the transmission to drop a gear and run but said electrical switch isn't needed with an electronic throttle pedal.

Thanks all for confirming. I decided to order a new gas pedal to try out. Ended up getting the sport/AMG pedals with matching brake and parking brake covers 👍.

2014 - W212 - E400 ( M276.820, 3 liter Turbo) RWD not Hybrid
ON MINE.
Lucky u guys.....I have complete data on file, I was trying to get spare connector for it for future test purpose if needed.
The mechanical click is there just for tactile feel, I guess MB put it for muscle memory sake of previous MB users. There is no electrical command based on that click.
B37 is the Accelerator Pedal
No regular mechanical Kick-Down switch. Simply twin data channels for safety purpose. Pin 1-2-3 one channel , pin 1-6-4 the other channel.
ELECTRICAL
Connector is by Hirschmann and it is the exact same connector to throttle body one
Hope this helps
