HEAT BUILD UP IN W212 E Windshield, Sunroof & Side Windows
Hello, all W212’rs…
hane you noticed that your glass transfers a lot of heat in your 2011 - 2016 E’s without the optional
glass “package?”
I certainly have, with the UV heat transfer & glare in my 2011 E4Matic Wagon being very noticeable, compared to my former Benz:
my 1991 300CE, 1994 E320 Wagon, 1998 E320 Sedan, 2000 C320 Wagon & 2001 E 4Matic Wagon - none of those vehicles’ glass transferred heat!
I had to have UV film put on the interior side of the windshield.
I’m considering UV film for the inside of the regular Sunroof, as well as film on the inside of the front side windows.
I have been told by my pro MB Body Shop that the UV “blue” film sandwiched as a layer in the “old” glass is no longer included. It’s an option - at $60K!
Just wondered if others have noticed this rather startling quality diminishment…

All materials transfer heat... Physics.
Hot wants to go to COLD.
Some just resist this flow of heat (Insulation) better then others.
Glass sheet transfer heat pretty good.
Tempered better then normal.
SO how did you measure to decide old MB glass was a better insulator then today?
