Pulling the torque converter plug - H4 slipping

Hey folks,

I did a transmission fluid change yesterday and found a solution to something that's really bothered me the other few times I've done this. The drain plug on the torque converter takes an H4 allen, but it's really bothered me how loose it is. It would even sometimes skip while trying to get it out and I just figured it was because it actually needed an H4.5 or something. Well yesterday I remembered I had a more complete allen wrench set that had a 4.5 so I tried it and whaddya know, it was too big I tried SAE but none of those fit any better either.

I ended up trying a torx bit instead, and the T25 was a perfect fit. It was tight enough that it had very little wiggle but I didn't have to force it in. It pulled the plug with no drama. I ended up getting this 6" Milwaukee Shockwave bit and was even able to torque it down nicely.

I highly recommend getting one the next time you do this job!

I am able to unscrew using H4 on 2013 W212. But it slipped on 2013 ml350 and I didn't try to open it afraid to stripped it. Make sure you push hard to make sure don't stripped the bolt.

I've been able to manage with the H4 the past few times but I've had to hit it at at angle and/or applying a fair amount of pressure. The T25 was a cakewalk comparatively though.

2008 E350 (W211 @170K), 2012 ML350 (W166 @119K), 2014 E350 Sport (W212 @96K), 2015 ML350 (W166 @92K)

that means it requires about an 11/64 in hex tool --> 4.365 mm... I am NOT encouraging the use of non-metric tools on MB

Perhaps something like https://www.zoro.com/eazypower-hex-k...1b/i/G1117142/

I went home last night and of course that's one size of allen wrench I didn't have. Hey, it's good to have alternatives!
