E550 4matic to E350 4matic heart transplant
So...
What's the possibility that one can take the M273 engine from a 2010 W212 e550 4matic and put it into a 2011 W212 (wagon) 350 4matic?
Where on the spectrum from "impossible" to "sure, just expect it to take more work than you expect and a lot of software matching." would you put it?
I have access to a full donor E550 4m with a bad transmission, so I'd get everything else: ecu, alternators, engine cradles, exhaust, whatever was needed. I could put in roughly $8000 after acquiring the donor before it would be too silly, financially, to do it.

To make it short answer - impossible.
If you watch "Grease monkey" show, they do top-end classic cars rebuilds and one time they put modern engine into classic car.
To marry all the computers, they called top software experts from the state... they could not do it.
So took flying the expert across the country, who had the know-how to make software working.
I know about only 2 indies in whole USA who have skills to attempt such marriage, but still not guarantee that something will go over the head.
More people with such skills in Europe.
To give an idea how things can get complicated with software is sample of my Sprinter, where dealer butchered the ignition module.
He replaced the module, but enter wrong VIN, what put command center into lock down mode. Dealer in AZ had no qualified technician to resolve the issue, so I drove van home.
To make the command center working again, takes MB subscription, so 1 of the above guys come to my place, hook up my Sprinter to computer and log into internet. Than he called a guy in Poland, who had the subscription and he log log into my Sprinter remotely, what allowed him to enter dealer's PIN into my vehicle programming.

Funny you should ask, I had the same question. The answer is kind of. It's been done but the guy didn't do things like swap the diffs or transmission. I went down the rabbit hole but concluded it's probably not worth it because of how many things you'd have to swap to do it "properly". If you wanted to go down this road and do everything, you're best off having an E550 donor car sitting in your garage that you can pull everything off of.
