Cabin air filter - facelift model is different

Sharing..............

I do not know the difference I am seeing is also applicable to US market cars or not.

I was trying MANN CUK29005.

The CUK29005 MANN can't fit well and is 5mm too long. Also it can't seal well with such design on my HVAC system. It can be forced installed yes.... granted one is an idiot
I wonder how the non-facelift HVAC blower unit internal looks like, the part where the cabin air filter create a tight seal. Like above photo.

The original MB facelift one is awesome. The sealing is so good, no dust goes thru to the evaporator.
I was wiping the blower internal FILTERED side and it is really zero dust.

The last time I inspected the evap was May 2021 and it was just as clean as now : https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...vaporator.html

Now, evap condition

Granted beween then May 2021 to now, I travel only at best 5,000ish KM.

Ok, hope your facelift model if the cabin filter's HVAC compartment has the same double dot lock/alignment like mine, please becareful when buying a non MB one even the German MANN
Check your HVAC housing before you buy the cabin filter.

OMG these two filters look identical but have a different shape. The straight part is longer on one.
You really need the VIN to order even a cabin filter.

mismatched shape

The game of redesigning all the parts all the time non-stop maybe to prevent copy cats look alike parts??
Japanese go the other way with one perfect filter reused across most models for many years.

Mine in the car ( replaced 2 years ago ) is the A204 830 00 18

MB original is on top

===================

When I first bought the car in 2018 ( pre-owned), it was using A 212 830 03 18 <<< seems like latest one.

But how come no foam sealing on the side perimeter ? I dont like it. It does have the alignment dot though

I will be sticking to A204 one.
I do not want any dust to cross over to my EVAP.

I guess the latest one is more stiff, it seems the outer perimeter (black) is plastic moulded, compared to the A204 outer perimeter which is more of fabric (white).
To me A204 seems to comform its shape itself well at the HVAC housing contour, so sealing is very good.... that's all I care about.
The media is the same, activated carbon and particle filter... no change.

None of the clips actually fit. Only the genuine one has that easy sliding action, otherwise you have to push VERY hard. I've been recycling the clips on about 30 Mercedes from that era now for time immemorial. Even the Mann clip won't fit and they're the OEM.

Shouldn't LHD just flip the filter the other way? It only goes in one way since it's asymmetrically shaped.

That IS the actual aftermarket part for your car. One part has multiple OE numbers depending on what car you have. I know what youre on about but they just changed the design to these foam paper sided ones. They seal fine.

The FP filter is an improvement though if you just wanna go for it.

That CUK29005 MANN is too tall for its top part that rubber blade, my bottom white sliding clip can not clip because the filter under side can not mate with the HVAC housing, there is a gap.....

I have explained in the other post : "cabin air filter- ASK" about yellow FP, I need to order from UK for right hand drive car. FP is directional. another....

Thanks for the info BTW
