2014 S212 fuel pump leaking

I put my 2014 E350 wagon into the garage for the first time (usually my BMW convertible gets the garage), and realized I have a strong fuel smell - can't smell it in the car. Google led me to having a look under the access covers in the back seat.
Sure enough, the driver's side pump/sending unit is well cracked and the "cup" there was full of fuel. Mopped it out and got the part number to order one. $216 for a Pierburg from FCP-Euro. Oddly enough, most of the parts houses say that this part number will not fit my car. - 2184700994 - but that is what is in it now... Of course, to do the swap I also need to open up the OTHER side too - that side seems fine, and good thing as that one costs at least twice as much! But are the tank seals the same on both sides? Looks to be 0259971845. Seems to be, but I haven't found a definitive answer yet.

What is it with Germans and crappy plastic? Sigh.

This place is a joke.
Oh no. It's like the infamous 211 fuel leak all over again. Some things never change.

German cars are like your children - you love them despite their faults. Germans really seem to suuck at plastic.

wait till u see new MB or older VW or BMW uses plastic oil pan
There are a few plastic parts which can ruin your engine .. they handle coolant and oil.

I owned a 2017 GTI with the plastic oil pan. They are fine. They only break if you hit something. Don't hit things. Nobody hit the top of my fuel pump on anything - it just cracked due to poor design and/or materials. I also hold nothing against plastic cooling system parts - with exceptions, they generally last a good long time, and coolant is not explosive... Proper maintenance is replacing critical parts before they fail.

I've actually owned over 50 cars, all but two of them European, mostly Swedish and German, but decent numbers of French and British, and three Italian. Currently three German, two BMWs and the Mercedes, as well as a Land Rover Disco I and a Triumph Spitfire.

The irony is that GTI's or Golf's in general are commonly stanced and frequently shear oil pan bolts.
