A/C button not working, always on

A/C button not working, always on
Unless I'm running the front defroster, my a/c compressor is always running. Pressing the a/c button has no effect. The only time it shuts off is when I put on the front defrost. From what I see, it should shut off when pressing the a/c button.


Any advice? Thanks. 2013 E350

mine turns on and off with the a/c button unless you have defrost selected in manual mode

That the thing, mine never turns off unless it is in defrost mode. Is there a way to reset it or something?

So, if you are using manual mode, where you have icons in the display denoting where you have directed the air, if the windshield or defrost symbol is showing the A/c is on, try switching to Auto then the A/c light should come on, then use it and it should go off.
Or set the manual mode to vents or floor only and it should be off. you can try pulling the negative battery cable for a system reset for 10-15 minutes.

I tried that, and the A/C button still doesn't work. It's like it's stuck being on.

That's so weird, wonder if somebody spilled something on the switches and their stuck? I know that's happened a few times, try the battery disconnect to reset systems, but it sounds like the switch? does it have the same tactile feel as the other switches?

does the red light on the a/c button toggle when you push it?

the AC will stay on if the temp setting on either side is lower than the car's interior temperature... so, kick the temp up to like 80, and it should shut off.

Maybe in the facelift, or on Auto, neither of mine does that

Button works just like all the rest of them, except the compressor keeps running. I do wonder if maybe someone spilled a drink, but everything else functions as it should.

Red light is on at all times unless the defrost is on. Button functions fine (except the obvious) I tried cranking up the heat as well, nothing.

Have someone erase all stored codes and do a quick test using Xentry (MB diagnostics) AC CU ‘may’ need to be re-initialied or worst case replaced requiring Xentry.

I have the same problem. My AC light has been on for YEARS. Nothing I have done turns it off.

if the AC light doesn't toggle with the button, its a good chance that the button is NOT working.

So I need one of those Star Dianostic computer things? I'm debating buying one. Lol.

Did you ever get this issue fixed? Mine is doing the same thing. I think water was spilled on it. My concern is that I'm wearing out the A/C compressor prematurely. I looked and changing out the control panel does not look that complicated.

Nope. Still don’t know why it’s doing it. The only way to turn it off is to turn the whole system off, or turn on the defroster.
