2012 e550 coupe cold start rattle
I bought a used 2012 e550 coupe (RWD, biturbo) and I heard the car rattle on a cold start. After reading various posts on the mb forum, I found that this is a common issue with the M278 engines.
I wanted to know from someone if they've gotten the chain tensioner and the check valves replaced and if that took care of the issue? How much did it cost and if there's a reliable person here in the GTA that would do it or should I go to the dealership and just take the hit. Any help would be appreciated, I love this car and don't wanna get rid of it. The issue happens only on a cold start and then vanishes immediately.

According to Mercedes, it shouldn't be a catastrophic issue but I would still look at getting in replaced. Most guys say once the work is done it doesn't come back. If you go INDY, this job involves timing work so they can easily total your engine. if they've never done it before they're going to refer to youtube.... you can watch youtube.....

So basically, just take this to mercedes and bite the bullet.
do we know how much the dealership would charge for this? I would prefer engine work to be done by the dealership anyway.
