2011 E350 Valve body pull / solenoid clean

I have been reading through the forums on cleaning my solenoid screens, the car has an intermittent hard downshift from 4 -> 3 and delayed shift from 3 -> 4 with 100k miles on it.
I drive the car like I have a full cup of coffee in the cup holder 95%, occasionally it hits over 65mph. The downshift I notice more often as I am coasting / decelerating uphill(?).
My questions -
has anyone had this issue with the screen cleaning being the resolution?
if no solenoids are replaced, will the transmission need the be re-programmed?
other than pan gasket, filter, fluid and trans fill tool, any other parts or specific tools to recommend?

  1. Have you scanned the vehicle for error codes?
  2. When was the last transmission service? 60K?
  3. Have you checked the mounts: engine and transmission?
  4. Have you checked the transmission harness/connector? By 2011 (722.9) should have been fixed, but just in case.
  5. You can always reset the transmission adaptations, in case it is confused by now.
    1. There is a procedure using the key and the accelerator
    2. There is a procedure using Xentry
    3. and, finally the brute force: disconnect all batteries: main and aux, wait a while, and reconnect
      1. If doing this, check your batteries are properly charged and have "enough life in them", i.e. battery health check.
I would not open the transmission until you are certain, there is something wrong inside. You can do more damage than leaving it alone.

1 Error codes, none
2 Last transmission service, yes at 60k miles. Car has been doing this since I got it. Intermittent, not often and not harsh so is not too much of a concern
3-5 No, have not looked into any of that.

Thanks for your response, gives me some better options. Everything I searched for came up as dirty screens. I have off work during the holidays and will do more investigating.
