Recall Letter - Corrosion of Steering Rack Bolts - E63 2014
Hi guys,
just received a letter from Mercedes to advise there’s a recall on the steering rack bolts and to upgrade them due to the corrosion on previous ones.
just curious to see if there would be any issues with handing them a tuned and modified car? Would they automatically perform any other updates to the ecu or would it go in solely for this purpose?
just wanted to get your thoughts on this as I’ve had a friend with another brand of car who gave his car in for some repair works but they updated the ecu software hence removing his remap file etc..
any ideas would be appreciated

I had this done on my 16' E350 Wagon and they literally just replace a couple of the bolts on the steering rack. It was purely mechanical and they did not touch any of the electronics. That's not to say they won't plug in their tools and check for updates as part of the service.

they will not do anything other than the recall if that is what you specify and since you're well out of warranty nothing further will likely be done.

All recalls are free regardless the time and mileage.
My Bluetecs had been subject to settlement, where my W212 had $8000 modifications done at 150,000 miles and followed with 4 years extended warranty on most of engine parts.
Sedan works fine, but Sprinter had some emission issues and at 206,000 miles the dealer did $5000 worth of repairs. All covered under the settlement warranty.
Then stupid DEF hose failed and not being covered, cost me $1000 cash.
I did not get recall leter on the bolts, so could that be model-dependent?

steering rack mounts
It's VIN dependant. I had that campaign done.
There is a TSB about it. I recall it being a rare corner-case hardly ever to happen.
This is likely tune-friendly repair. Dealers don't flash firmware in fear of bricking perfectly good modules.
