My 2011 e550 is having an issue where when the car is turned on, i get red lights on the front distance display with a loud beep and then eventually it turns off. I've done some research and it seems this means one of the sensors is bad.
I took the car into my mechanic who used stardiagnose and told me it was one of the sensors in the rear but he didnt know which one.
After ordering one sensor from FCP euro, i swapped every sensor out from the back one by one with the new one, checking each time to see if the error was resolved, but unfortunately it still kept happening.
I also found a way to diagnose which one was faulty by rubbing my finger over each sensor while its in reverse and feeling/hearing the clicking noise. Every sensor works. Front and back.
I've also cleaned the sensors thoroughly with WD-40 to draw out any moisture. I have also replaced both fuses (12, 80) for parking sensors.
My question is -- can this be due to a faulty module or something else other than the sensor? I've also noticed that the parking distance display inside the car at the front is the only one that turns on -- the rear display doesnt turn on at all. This is leading me to believe there may be something wrong with the module itself and not the sensors. Any help is appreciated.

Xentry (MB diagnostics) – erase all stored codes, pull current. If used correctly should identify malfunctioning sensor(s), etc. inclusive of diagnostic assistance. Try another independent. Also provide VIN so members can see how vehicle is equipped to offer diagnostic opinions.

See attachments for a better understanding of system. If you decide to replace CU rather than diagnose you may get lucky with used replacement however, any problems after install or new unit you’re going to need Xentry (MB diagnostics) to perform startup. My suggestion find an independent with Xentry to erase/pull codes before replacing parts.
