OEM Reverse Camera Cracked
I recently picked up a 2016 E350 with low miles (40k) for a steal at an auction. It’s perfect all around, got it checked out by a mechanic, but the only downside is that the reverse camera is cracked. When it’s fully dry, the picture quality is fine albeit you can see the cracks. However, whenever it gets wet it’s in-viewable and is all blurred due to the water getting into the cracks.
I’m considering replacing the camera unit with another OEM unit, however I can’t seem to find any resources on how to go about this on my own. Anyone know where I can find some diagrams or tutorials to do this? The only videos I’ve found are when people are installing non OEM units on vehicles that were not initially equipped with a backup camera.
Another possibility on my mind is potentially just picking out the cracked glass, leaving the bare camera exposed, and then trying to makeshift another lens and glue it on?
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!
