Thank you very much JuanMor40. You've been very helpful.

I also found this Youtube video below from a popular channel which was posted less than 2 weeks ago. He bought a 2014 S550 and it had the same problem with the oil leaking from the position sensors and solenoids into the wiring harness. His car was already throwing up codes and a check engine light because the oil leak had done enough damage. He goes through the diagnostic and repair process. I learned some things from watching that. (There are a couple of other parts to this video on his channel related to his S550 if you want to check it out).

I contacted an indi shop for an estimate and they included the cost for a coolant flush because they said the coolant cooler needed to be removed for the job.

Is that true?

By the way, I contacted a dealer for an estimate and they wanted $1,900 + tax to replace all 4 cam position sensors and all 4 cam solenoid magnets.
LMAO rolling on my bed.

Run from that dealership, at the speed of light. It took me less than a hour to get it done, and I suck at working on cars.

Yeah, that dealership quote was way too high. I purchased the 4 camshaft position sensors from that same Mercedes dealer for around $35 a piece and installed them yesterday. All 4 of my old ones were leaking oil. I made sure to clean and spray each connector with electrical cleaner before reconnecting them to the new sensors.

The hardest part was getting the bolts to come loose because they had been baked in for the last 10 years, but other than that it was pretty easy. The only thing is I don't have a torque wrench so I couldn't torque the bolts to spec. I tightened them to the German spec.... "Good-and-tight." Haha.

I ordered the solenoids from Amazon for $33 a piece and they are arriving tomorrow. They are supposed to be OEM Mercedes parts. My solenoids have a little bit of oil seeping in, but they haven't reached the male connector wiring yet. The position sensors were definitely in much worse shape.

Today when I drove the car after installing the position sensors I immediately noticed an improvement. The engine runs much smoother and it even feels quicker when accelerating. It feels great doing the job yourself and saving money at the same time.
