How time flies.... 7 months already, need to do oil change again

............ and I only logged so far 1,100KM ish only my odo reads 36,860 KM today.

Oil change of Aug 2022 and Sept 2022, I did not bother to replace the oil filter, since it done only 1,105KM since previous oil change on 6th Dec 2021.
This soon oil change to be done ( in a few days ), I wont change the oil filter too, its only so far under 2,300KM of use.

I am sad for the lack of use/mileage.
Wanted to drive again to Bali so I can log near 3,000KM round trip, but this year rainy season is off the chart and pot holes even on highway is reported to be plenty, and some areas are now "wavy* too from bad foundation ( paid highway ).
This year Moslem holy day is first time since 2020 without Covid restriction, so the load of cars/truck and the road is plenty and that is how the roads including paid highway get damaged.
This annual "migration" of people and vehicles are insane, 6 - 10KM long crawling traffic jam or dead stop at paid highway is common.
The only other insane "migration" of people and cars in peace time, would be China's Chinese New Year.
I hope in the next 3 months the road/highway get fixed, because my driving pleasure depends on road decent condition.

We don't do anywhere near that frequent oil changes here. I typically do anywhere from 8-10 thousand mile oil changes although I let it slip once to 11k. Also don't do it once a year as mine are well out of warranty, I think I was at 5k once after a year due to Covid but waited another 6 months before finally doing it. Don't do anything crazy though, either Mobil 1 0w40 or Castrol 0w40.

Well, I used to do 200 operating hours which in my bad traffic jam, at 20 - 24 KM/H ( 13 - 15 MPH ) average, and its worth only 5K KM. And 1 year as max.
Engine hours is the best calculation to use.

You guys in USA will probably able to do average speed at least 35 MPH or 56KM per hour , where 200 hours will give you 11.2K KM or 7,000 miles.
Our oil change by MB Indonesia is set at 8,000KM only, because that is near 400 engine operating hours already in my city typical traffic.

Now my car is very very seldom used and if I do use it, it wont be a good enough long drive.
As such, I make it a point to do at least once a week engine run, if I feel like it and only 20 miles or sometime 60 miles.
The less I drive, and short drive, the faster I will replace the engine oil and thus 6 months is maximum now, as I will never hit that 200 operating hours or even 3K KM, unless I go to Bali by car.

If traffic is bad in Jakarta, I get my wive's driver and her car hahahah, me too lazy to drive.

Here is an old archive, during 15K to 20K KM oil change in 2019. Back then my daughter was still around ( now abroad ), so my car get to send her to school at 1/3 frequency. 3 cars my driver will rotate, as I instructed.
Here is not bad, 24 KM per hour average ( 15 MPH ) for 196 hours of engine running, because 3/4 of the route to her school were on a highway away from the city and not inside the city worst traffic region.

Sad... yes.....

Oh yeah, we have the same bad traffic jams here too. On my W211, I sometimes only get 12-14mpg on a tank because it takes an hour to go 10 miles in rush hour traffic. On the flip side, traffic fatalities are lower in my state because you can't go that fast. And toll roads here get jammed with traffic too.

Well, if you ever come to Jakarta today, you will cry at our kind of traffic, while not in peak hours, just normal hours.
I can log 21 - 24 KM/H average is because I do not go to any office at CBD /city area, the super traffic region. I am basically retired and work from home.
If one works at CBD area, expect to need 45 minutes per 3 miles traveled or 1 hour.

Below has 3,000 KM as out of town trip to Bali, of which 1,600 KM of it is a highway which do not have bad traffic, decent speed do-able, 50 MPH.
Yet average speed is only 39 KM/H or 24 MPH for the 5,800 KM.

I had blast early April in New Zealand, Queenstown.
Nice small roads but can do maximum speed limit always....so little traffic and the winding road was so awesome, mainly single lane only. The tarmac quality is top notch.
Too bad I can't drive the way I would really want to drive those winding roads , or jail it would be.
Kia Sorento was the rental car and I did 600 KM on her in 8 days, compared to 7 months and 1,100 KM only on the E400 .... LOL
Not sporty at all this SUV for its handling, but the 2.2L diesel I am familiar with and not bad for low torque given such a small engine size.

You should probably just send out a sample of the oil to a lab and see how it's holding up. Lots of times people do 10k+ in the US and the lab results come back as the oil having a little bit more life left. On the W211, the original oil change interval was 13k and yes that includes being stuck in traffic. It's just considered a waste of oil changing it too often. There was a 25k oil from Mobil a few years ago, but I guess people couldn't wrap their heads around leaving the oil in the car for that kind of mileage so it didn't sell well.

Oil lab test cost at proper lab, is as much as 116% of O-40W Mobil 1 x 7 liters
So best I replace oil every 6 months, it is a cheap insurance for my VVT system.

Here is what I paid for an oil test, for a marine diesel engine. Any used engine oil, same price. US$162.00
Yesterday, I just bought Mobil 1 0-40W at US$139.00 for 7 liters.

Oh yeah, everything is much more expensive where you are. It's $35 in the US these days, used to be $20. But the whole point was that you'd do it once or twice and then you'd just know that the oil was still good and then you'd know how much longer you could go. Lots of times people post their test results and even at 10k, the oil usually ends up being good for a few thousand more. Mobil 1 0w40 is now down to $27 for a 5 quart jug now. How much does it cost to send something to the US?

Shipping to US is very expensive from here.
6 months per oil change cost is low enough for me and the benefit for the engine will pay itself.
