Update on Carplay Retrofit?
All,
Have been looking at some newer w212s (2015's and 2016s) but a 2011 wagon just caught my attention with very low miles and in seemingly great shape.
HOWEVER it looks like there are issues getting the ngt 4.0 upgrade to enable apple carplay and android auto.
I have read the threads of people, particularly with the 2010-2011 ngt 4.0 having intermittent problems with the car play interface. ALSO, it looks like the link to aliexpress is no longer working and at least one person has ordered and not had their module shipped.
What is the latest thoughts around doing the carplay upgrade for the w212 with the ngt4.0 command version? I saw a few people actually uninstall theirs??
I don't want to be convinced that it will be easy peasy and then find out it doesn't really work the way I hoped and be disappointed?
ANY OTHER issues with the 2011 w212 that I should especially be aware of? I think this particular vehicle is well outfitted.
Thanks in advance! I am looking at the car in the morning and just want to be realistic about the upgrade.

To my knowledge, no one has been able to successfully install Android Auto/Apple Carplay on a pre-facelift W212 (prior to 2015). NTG4.0 is a non-arrival (both firmware and software), so no one has been able to upgrade 4.0 to NTG5.0. NTG5.1s is required to install AA/Carplay, several steps up above NTG4.0.
Keep in mind that AA/Carplay was not even a thing anywhere until it emerged in the industry mid-2015.

What's not super clear is if there are folks who have had it go smoothly and it wasn't quirky?

Received my box from Aliexpress without issue.
Followed instructions from this forum.....and posted asking for help.
I've got Carplay - but no audio. (However audio DOES work from Comand radio).
Carplay seems to work as designed. Looks just like Carplay, I can move around, select apps....but no sound.
Emailing daily with Michael from Kremersino.com......I'll update if it works.
Never able to get sound to work. Michael wanted me to send a video.
Tried, but using joystick to move around Car Play stopped video....over and over. I give up.

have you tried enabling internal aux in? This is in the service menu. You need to enter that to do it, but I am unsure of the procedure for this year.
