Personally, until the source of the short is not understood, I would not install a brand-new unit on that vehicle at that price. I rather damage the old ECU one more time before committing a new unit, i.e. use the old ECU as an expensive fuse.
If I was to get a new ECU I would give it to MB dealer shop to install so if they burn it, it is on their dime. They would have to program it for the car anyway...

That only works if they sell you the part and install it.

agree on that, but that will 🎈 the bill to @$3000+ since they will fix Anything they can name.

These cars once out of warranty and accumulated codes to be fixed are dealer's dream everyday
