I made a similar mistake once on my c300 (m272), the upper most large o ring was too high up on the edge. The design is not really great because it really allows for mistakes.

No leaks but once I took a turn and gave it the beans and the pressure built up and shot out around the upper filter. It was weird because there was no obvious point where the oil spilled from - but it was literally thru the washer.

A ton of oil got out but I towed it back home and did the oil change, fortunately no damage. How long was it run after oil loss?

Thanks for the correction... I could have certainly expressed myself better on my post. There should be no roughness while turning but you will feel the compression strokes.
