In my 2010 E550 the AUX battery does other than just allows switching the gear. When my AUX battery went out, that is just recently did, the car did not have HOLD function, nor did the Distronic cruise control work. Charged the battery and all works. It is obviously time to get a new one soon. It has been ok for about a month now since re-charging but for how long?

2025.. still helping people!

I just had this exact issue, and went through similar troubleshooting steps. Skipped the main battery and purchasing of a $150 scan tool and went straight to the replacing of the 5amp fuse near the battery. Error message GONE! THANKS A TON!!

I had replaced the auxiliary battery already and still had the error. It was driving me mad until I found this post. I had the scan tool ready to order. Still plan to purchase one, just not yet. Thank you!
