wheel bearing cap
I've just replaced my threads for winter for the first time owning my E220 2015 4 matic.
Front left wheel popped out on me when I unscrewed the nuts and a cap fell from the wheel bearing.
It just won't go in again. I greased it, try hammering it in, no success.
It looks like it doesn't fit in the hole that has an inner edge and the cap does not.
Any thoughts?
I bought the car in summer. Is the wheel bearing even legit and not aftermarket? Who knows what happened to the car in the past.

I used an old worn chisel, where the cutting edge of the chisel has worn away so it doesn't harm the cap, and tap around the flange of the cap till it's seated. you may need to file a chamfer so it will start easier.
It's meant to be a really tight fit to keep water and debris out.

Is there a part number stamped on the wheel bearing cap? My suggestion would be to call your nearest MB dealer parts department or research online and verify if that is the correct wheel bearing cap for your vehicle. When you said it fell out when you removed the wheel makes me think it wasn't seated securely on the hub in the first place and isn't the correct part for your vehicle.

be gentle when tapping it all around easily.
It has to go in evenly or it won't - If you force it it'll become oval then you'll spend one hour with it.
Eye ball it for a good round - Perhaps it got abused already....

It is a pain. Helped install a buddies bearing buddies on a trailer, same thing almost interference fit. If I remember correctly we put a piece of soft wood (pine) over it and beat it like a red headed step child till it went in. Took a bit but it worked eventually.
