I find it easier to use an oil pump to change the engine oil
and leave the sump plug where it is
Rather than undo the sump plug
which often requires the removal of an undertray
and jacking the car up, or using ramps, or a hoist
and crawling around under the car
and getting hands covered in oil when the plug pops out
and can result in the sump plug or the sump itself having a stripped thread
and requires the replacement of the seal washer and torque wrench setting for the sump plug
and often is the cause of an oil leak later
Take the car for a short run to get it up to temperature
lift the bonnet and let the engine bay heat out
remove the dipstick and poke the pump tube down the dipstick tube until it hits the bottom of the sump
turn the pump on and all that hot oil is thin and easily sucked up by the oil pump
I found I got all of the oil out of the sump using the oil pump with the car on flat ground
whereas pulling the sump plug always left some dirty oil in the sump pan
In the photo I use my smart battery charger for the 12volts for the oil pump
The charger croc clips are just clipped to plastic flanges to hold them to the car
and then I can clip the oil pump clips to those
The oil pump has a switch on the body of the pump
I use a bucket for the dirty sump oil
so that when I have put the clean oil in the car
and the oil container is empty, I can transfer the oil in the bucket to the empty oil container.
Usually they are 5 litre containers, so I use an empty 2 litre orange juice container as well
to hold the extra bit of oil sucked out of the sump
The oil pump is in a plastic tray because it has got a bit leaky over time

I've used an oil evacuator "topsider" since 2001, once I found that Mercedes-Benz oil filters are on top of the engine. No need to get under the car at all.
All four of the DFW area Mercedes dealers use mega sized pumps. Works for them, works for me, too.
