Best "old" scanner for 2012 w212
I recently got a new to me 2012 e350 w/95k for a great price and I am needing to buy a decent scanner.
The car is 2012 so why buy a brand-new-model scanner to code/diagnose a 2012 model -- what "older" units work best for our cars?

2008 E350 (W211 @170K), 2012 ML350 (W166 @119K), 2014 E350 Sport (W212 @96K), 2015 ML350 (W166 @92K)
Depends what is your goal with scanner? There is no such thing as old scanner for these cars.
1- read/delete basic codes?
2- read/delete MB specific codes?
3- read/delete MB specific codes? Activate specific components of the vehicle: lights, fan, AC, seats, windows, shifter, etc?
4 - code/flash modules ?
You can go from $80 -> $$$+ depending on your goal for that specific year and model

2014 - W212.065 - E400 ( M276.820, 3 liter Turbo) RWD not Hybrid
The aftermarket scanner took years to "hack" into MB system, to make their own scanner as good as Xentry, BUT IT COULD NEVER BE AS GOOD AS XENTRY even today this 2023.
So, the newer aftermarket scanner is always better than older scanner because of the time needed and you must buy a GOOD ONE.
Best to date for the bang-4-the-buck is Creader Elite for MB by Launch and now the V2.0 model is out.
Under US$150 today. Wired, not wireless and small screen. No need annual update fee ever.

I will look into the CE for sure—i like the idea of wired vs wireless.
