Can the Launch Creader Elite modify seat code/variants ?

Wonder what are the options to modify seat behavior using the Launch Creader Elite scanner.

Seat config

Here is what I gathered about my passenger leather seat.

There are all sorts of different options that comme to play with the seat: such as "rear collision" option...

Launch options for passenger seat

options detail 1 of 3

options detail 2 of 3

options detail 3 of 3

Not 100% exposed options are useful nor golden. Launch C-Reader gives us access to engineering menus options some of which should best left alone. Process carefully as with any software settings!

I think it would be positive to share interesting menus options we come across.
Such a blinkers count
(Battery reset in SAM?)

Every VIN has different set of options so every option won't be applicable to all cars.

LIST O' MODULES...

Here the complete collection of live modules on my car... A to Z as listed:

Module collection by LAUNCH cReader 1of8

2of8

3of8

4of8

5of8

6of8

7of8

8of8

I like that cReader does not ignore the many LIN Bus devices the way my Autel MaxiDiag does.
This scanner is another special gem introduced by @S-Prihadi as far as I know.

> READING "TEA LEAVES":
When you pop your head backstage, things become more interesting.

I call this "reading tea leaves" because a lot of it misleading. It's like reading a stock market report: everything is true but it does not fully describe reality.

Many modules report errors as Current/Stored - They all mean something to the wiser.
Stored are simply not "hard errors" but can be current transients.
The wording is misleading but don't let that stop you: learn this for what it is.

Many faults have misleading vague descriptions ... Ex: camshaft correlation codes that point to everything except the culptit reluctor wheel.
Don't rush to replace good OEM parts with aftermarkets.

> The Worse Amazing Faults:
The faults you'll hardly ever hear about have no error codes. Your scanner will show smiley face and car will still be sick!
These faults are not tested so they can remain ignored unflagged, peacefully creating controlled havoc and surprises.
  • Battery drain while parked: F-SAM DCU
  • Gremlins factory : STRAP
  • Sick Main AGM: ECU R-SAM
  • Slow-poke M276/8:
  • ....
So learn to know these modules because none of the above rings a bell to spoil your parties.

The hard part in troubleshooting correctly is to investigate facts and connect the relevant information.

Luckily our cars are built to high standards with everything necessary to run and then disfunction predictably.
I was puzzled to realize that when my new Benz had bad brakes and bad battery before 10kMi... so I took care of this myself: 10 years later same original battery and same original brakes - That's the difference between multiple service calls vs. one repair job.

@CaliBenzDriver Thank you very much for the detailed information.
At the moment, I am interested in how deep the variant coding option goes, and if it allows changes or just lists possible options.

Each module version and type exposes different firmware hooks the scanner can work with.... the result are very diverse.

The version of my seat controller may be slightly different than earlier/later software/hardware - This flexibility to adapt is the beauty of German engineering.

Okay, let me go dig some for ya

> Nothing's Perfect...
It's funny you flag that option because "Variant coding" seat menu option open a 2 screens deep list in which "variant coding" is also part of... confusing!

round robin nested option

Let me see what's inside that nested one... now

Pass.Seat Variant Parameters

Under the 2nd level of "Variant Coding" menu option, no less than 35 settings are exposed. This is where options are toggled to match other chassis features. Here the seat shows I selected the PreSafe package when I custom built that car. It works with front/rear radars

- Here is my complete set:

Other point of interest with cReader are NORMALIZING POSITIONS for:
  1. seats
  2. sunroof
  3. HVAC Actuators
  4. door windows
  5. ....?....

normalizing seats

OMG... HVAC

You like customise and perhaps tinker with things.... head out to the HVAC settings.... every option you ever dreamed of.

TIP: TAKE A SCREENSHOT+ PICTURE.
You are going to flip a bunch of settings and come Monday you wish you had a list of those settings.

3x screens full of HVAC Settings:

COMPUTERS AT YOUR SERVICE

How should we organise the LAUNCH postings to be indexed... I guess one thread per module would be REAL nice with a list of links to each thread.

ECU... YoYo + Solenoid
SAM + CGW
ESP
SSCM
ISM
DCU
KEY-G

Ppl fix wipers and flat tires... now it's time to recognize MB networked Modules as recipients of much needed care.

On the high speed network it's 8AM rush hour traffic jams . Each time you loose a goody module something starts working better - Good game if you know what you're after fixing: >>> POOR TIMINGS: wasted cyclesake slow delayed at every level both computation + networking.... ouch performance impact.

The VIP modules like bi-monthly reboots just like golfing...

Seriously fast scanner on tuned CAN-Buses. It's a pleasure to play around, like this car now.
Yum-yum

++++ very fast & stable scanner 👏

Go open up your ICLUSTER options galore
(was looking for Temp Gauge tweaks)

I did use the Creader to change the number of blinks when changing lanes to 4 (default is 3). It is in the Front SAM under Indicators (I think). I will confirm the next time I get a chance.

A couple of days ago, my passenger seat stopped moving forward or back. I used my Creader tool to diagnose the problem. I tried calibrating the seat because I have two current DTCs: B1D9B54 and B228678. Those codes say the seat needs to be calibrated, but calibration fails. It appears that the is a problem with the Hall sensor, which I understand is part of the fore/aft motor.

-- The fault in your seat module is a perfect example of misleading code: "bad motor position sensor".

I can almost guarantee the sensor is all right but something else is helping position signal get lost.

90% chance it's just a poor connection as follows:

-- The W212 seat modules are not solderless but have poor soldering instead. Do a physical check.

-- Of course the seat uses painted GND at chassis chair-rail.

-- With everything made good, you can trace a schematic to see what circuit motor sensors work with.
✌️

Thanks. It's snowing/raining and miserably cold today. So I will take another look as soon as the weather gets a little nicer. Also, don't want to mess with plastic trim in zero degree weather. Where's global warming when you need it?

@juanmor40
Juan, I come to realize I shouldn't have messed with my A/C without asking what you think.

-- Default is: fixed at 2°C above icing
-- Advanced is: variable based on humidity.

Do you have a strategic opinion for evap target temp?

- Of course we can leave it with "2°C default" but the HVAC Controller can "save energy" by varing that target temp for dehumidifing in winter without cooling.

- Lower serpentine load, less A/C Temp Cooling when we want dry heat for windshield defogger.
Sounds worth a try.

Becareful with baby Launch for its content of VARIANT CODING.
We can compare it with similar data when visible with Xentry NInja or Xentry Passthru
I seen different values between Launch and Xentry, surely Xentry is the accurate one.

Yes, but it was not cheap. Fortunately, I had a vehicle service contract (extended warranty) that covered the cost. There is a cross member on the SL seats that are plastic or some junk metal that the motor is attached to. The cross member broke and the dealer had to replace the entire seat bottom (no simple repair kit). Woulda cost well over $5000. The seat bottom retails for $4100.

Not sure how the E-Class seats compare, but if paying out of pocket, I'd try to get a working seat off of eBay and repair it myself.

The E is fine. The ML has similar error for two off the passenger seat motors. It cannot normalize the seat. May need to measure in a few points

What intersting is that checking the EPC, there are replacement parts. Hmmmm.

I think the part that broke is #20. However, it appears to be discontinued.

Send me your VIN and I'll look up your parts.

Wonder if it is purely electrical. Two error codes are the same seems like too much coincidence

Your ML seats do not look like you can just buy parts, but must get the entire thing. Maybe the dealership that fixed mine was thinking the same thing.
