HPFP Cam Follower need periodic replacement?
I ask this since I own a VW FSI engine with GDI. Since this is a simple bucket type follower on the HPFP, replacement is suggested every 30K miles due to the potential consequences of if it wears thru.
The M276 with GDI has a better roller design for its cam follower and appears to last longer.
Is there a recommended inspection/replacement interval for this follower?

My answer to your question would be around 80 to 100kMi more so that around 120kMi - You want to prevent camshaft damages that will waste new roller. Obviously this depend on driving and oiling conditions.
-- Our MB HPFP roller is built with needle bearings. That's s great!
-- It rolls over 3 or 4 lobes according to engine turbo vs. NA and single or twin independent pumps.
-- The stressor is the engine low oil delivery under limited cooling. These conditions affect the pump shaft that becomes harder to shift and cause the roller to develop a flat. The seized pump kills its roller.
-- Definitely at least replace your roller(s) when HPFP is removed to replace the PCV cover around 80kMi.
I don't know the projected lifespan of HPFP... maybe be good idea to replace as part of PCV job kit.
- PCV diaphragm cover
- PCV plastic conduits
- HPFP 3000.Psi pump
- HPFP Roller
Scheduled surprise cancelled.
