W212 Brake warning light

Brake warning light illuminated on dash. First thought- pads worn - so changed front + rear plus wear indicator but light still on.
Got a code from a local indie “component b64/1 (brake vacuum sensor) has electrical fault”
Purchased sensor (part no

A 007 542 03 18 which is replaced by A 000 905 48 04) - £66 from MB.

Fitting is fairly easy

Sensor is buried

Undo this bolt (17mm) and lift bracket up - I supported it on a block of wood. Access to the sensor is then a doddle - carefully lever out with a screwdriver, push in new part after plugging in 3 pin connector. Re-assemble Brake warning light extinguished 😊

Kinda why we always suggest getting a proper scanner (not generic OBD) and scan for codes. It will save you time and money. I suggest LAUNCH Creader Elite 2.0 BENZ. About $160 on Amazon and you can stick it in the trunk or glove box.

I don’t disagree Jetta. However the pads and wear sensors cost me £96 for all front + rear whereas the scanner is £135 here in UK. This is the first time an indicator light has come on where the cause of the fault is not fairly obvious. I now know that when a light comes on in this car (E300 Bluetec Hybrid) I will need to scan the system to discover the fault. Basically the car is very complex. It has more buttons than I have had hot dinners and is not very intuitive. I will see how it goes but if I continue to get warning lights I will probably invest in a scanner. iCarsoft 2 seems to be a popular choice).
