Wheel hub and brakes

Hey everyone,
So I changed front wheel hub and bearings with an aftermarket assembly.. Lost ABS and ESC.. Then replaced with OE Benz assembly and all is working again.. Here's the question... When my ABS wasn't working my brakes were much better.. Higher pedal, firmer pedal and just better brakes . Once ABS was working again brakes just don't feel nearly as good .
Any opinions on this?
Thanx

The ABS is very advance and geared towards safety and comfort and civilized braking. If you want to make it brake good, you need to push pedal hard, no choice.
Use your Launch scanner and go into N30/4 ESP , you will be surprised at the so many and complex settings available as set by the ESP brain based on speed and many
other conditions.

Also if you loose wheel speed sensor, the brake would be set at I am guessing : at OPTIMUM MECHANICALY as how oldie non ABS braking system would behave.
Which means to newbie drivers the brake can lock its rotor faster. heheehe

yes very...... hence it is the best brake I ever owned for creeping snail traffic or high degree parking space downward incline/slope..... it is so elegant in operation.
I almost thought I failed to bleed the air bubbles properly... ha haha

BTW, what drill bit , sorry I do not know the technical name for such a bit, where you make good the Lemforder rear damper top mount C-clip recess which you mentioned
you machine it down by 0.002inch or 0.5mm.

This C-clip recess. LEMFORDER

LEMFORDER

MB original to the car.

Thank u....

So on my E250 diesel I replaced the top mounts because they came with what I ordered. I looked at and test fitted the C-clips in the recess and too be honest couldnt tell difference between the original MB and the Lemforder that I got. Was well aware after your thread of the issues. Wish I had taken pics but its done now. Gotta rebuild front end so not on road yet but honestly the clips sat in the recess very good and the depth was more like the MB version. I compared side to side.

I think GRB can answer for us, when he used the boring bit to remove 0.5mm metal of the C-clip recess, he would be able to tell if the Lemforder recess is as square and as flat as MB ones or not,
I mean from the machining marks slowly the cutter eating into the recess....which part of the recess got cut first.

I can't even measure it with my caliper, too deep.

I do not like that funny grey-ish coating Lemforder uses and so happened it also got "sprayed" into the C-clip recess.
I measured the C-clip contact surface area vs the damper piston. The C-clip is only 2mm bigger at 12mm compared to the piston shaft OD at 10mm.
So only 1mm area the C-clip circumference can contact the recess at the damper top mount. It so small an area for a working force or resistance of approx 22-25KG ( I pushed down damper ) of load.
That is why I do not like how Lemforder C-clip recess looks like. Poor dimensional accuracy and surface finish, is what I can describe it.
GRB being a pro machinist , he can explain better.

It will take at least 1,000 miles to see the damage of the C-clip and the damper's piston area which holds the C-clip.

DAMAGED one

.

Sman and Quinn..
So what I did was just barely touch the OD of the recess (.002 thousands of an inch) and remove the radius in the corner and . 002 off the face where the clip sits in the recess.. I used a boring bar with a nose radius of . 005 so the clip sits perfectly flush.. Like 10 minute job to do both mounts... quite simple actually.. Last time I removed shocks clips were still in perfect shape
I also made new clip (washer basically . 02 wider and out of stainless steel
