Stering - Tie rod end ball joint

Guys,

I am on a reconnaissance mission for future big work.
So I had to remove my Electric Power Steering to have a better view and test hand access,

Some tips I want to share for the proper tool specification.

Get 32mm wide fork opening. This tie rod end is unique in design as you can not slide its rubber boot down at all.
It is very good the way the seal is made for waterproofing.

See my steel lip of the red seal got bent a bit. Yellow band is where your vernier caliper read the diameter, because caliper blade is thin.

Measurement :

I made mistake, I read as 27.xx mm, when measuring. That meant my caliper went under the steel lip and to the yellow band.

.

The tool opening maximum height, minimum 55mm, if possible. Mine only like 52mm maximum.

I have to make my fork U opening deeper ,as it was based on 19mm design. And grind down more to make the fork at 31mm wide for future work.

....
This type ball joint tool wont work, no space....unless you want to remove disc brake and its dust cover and that means brake caliper must be removed too.

Now you know the proper tool spec. You then wont dent your ball joint steel ring at the red seal , like I did.

Didnt see any marks on it but did you tap on the joint or housing (cant think of proper name) that the ball joint threaded portion goes thru. Doing that and tapping on the nut ya installed on the threaded portion usually does the trick. Also not good for the torqz bit but using that to turn the ball joint a tad which loosens it in the housing can do the trick sometimes.

No tap ( u mean hammering right ? )
I don't want any hammer kind of high impact to my steering knuckle and ball joints.

Before I enlarged the ball joint separator tool jaw opening...........
I did try to use a flat piston mini impact gun like video below, but mine is a light duty small one and no success

That is why my sacrificial nut got lots of friction mark.

Yeah saw one that had a pointish type tip that went in the hex head portion, seemed to work pretty good. Either way with a hammer or impact Ive found its just a matter of persistence. that being said ya now have special tool for next time.
