Hi iam a new owner of a beautiful 2014 Mercedes E300 and i worked through maintenance and everything looks fine so far. The speakers were gone so i replaced them with kenwood speakers but i feel the bass is weak. I didn't find an amplifier nor factory subwoofer in the car. I do have a question however i wanted to know whats this box for? Can i install an aftermarket Kenwood amplifier easily?
IIRC the 2014 models had issues with speakers.
Nothing about the Mercedes audio system is particularly easy, given all the fiber optic communications between the many different modules involved.
Someone will hopefully chime in with a more detailed (and intelligent?) answer...

that beautiful trunk box varies with applications... it's either a gun-case or a automated trunk puller.
Aftermarket sound need a fiber optic converter and direct battery homerun.
On-board electronics maybe more or less compliant with high power glitches.
Thanks guys i can see a cover missing there i was trying to google it to see a part number or something to order the missing cover but i couldn't find any. Can anyone help with this?
Also i want to know what sound system is the car running? Is it possible to know from somewhere other than looking at the hardware?
Have you run your VIN through www.lastvin.com to see what's on the car? Then you can refer to the Comand owner's manual and see what's (supposed to be) in there.
