Need to replace a headlight assembly on a 2010 E350 4Matic. The assembly still works, but the lens is shattered. From what I can tell, these came with LED or Xenon headlights, and adaptive or not. How can I tell which it has? Thanks!

Look up your build sheet by VIN number, in 2010, the choices were H7 Halogen X4 or Xenon, do you have automatic high beams and cornering lamps? headlight washers? if so you have Xenons, Best bet would be find an assembly used and have it programmed to your car, the cost of a new assembly is 2k or so.

afaik, HID were only used on the low beams, the high/main beams were halogen. I don't believe LED lighting came into play on the W212 until the facelift circa 2014.

The pre-facelifts with lighting package came with HID headlights with a movable flap, they only have one headlight bulb per side D1S, The facelift came with LED low beams and H7 halogen high beams, My '12 w/o lighting package has four H7"s. I believe the facelifts with lighting package came full LED

I have the '14 facelift LED low-beam option but not dynamic ILS so my high beam are still a hot H7 bulb.
Funny this is my LED are called "static" but are supposed to adjust based on a rear height sensor (non-AirMatic)
I believe there's some type of actuator inside HL enclosure that tilts beam up/down.... awaiting for a fault when grease has dried out.

Yes, those are the four options in the 212, Im suprised to hear you have a Height sensor, my '12 with four H7's does not, Must have been a facelift upgrade!

yeah, our 2016 has the ILS version, there's a single motorized LED array that goes up for high beams and down for low beams. I don't know if there's a height sensor, the wagon has airmatic rear so /should/ always be level.

I custom ordered the "intermediate LED package" option ie. non-dymamic curve illumination or intelligent Hi/Lo.
Only simple auto On/Off with windshield LIN sensor.
I too was surprised when I saw a single height sensor at rear driver wheel in non-AirMatic chassis.
The driver side master LED module also complains of "no communication with suspension system" - A mismatched firmware bug (configuration or coding).
I have not played much with this sensor. It looks like a good solid-state sensor, very much like our "accelerator pedal sensor". I'm guess the sensor is connected to a SAM.
I'll be playing with that some day.

I am pretty sure the HL module read the height, directly from the air suspensions control.

Nice! on my last two S Class's the ride height sensor did double duty, it was passenger side of differential,my E's don't have air suspension, it was awesome for comfort and ride, but the repair bills on both were such I opted to skip in on the E classes.

sadly, airmatic on 212's and such is nowhere near as plush as the hydropneumatic stuff used in the 80s, early 90s. those had a real magic carpet ride. 124 wagons had it in back, I think some S class had it on all 4.

Yes, my '93 500S had that, it was a floaty boat! my '03 S500 and '07 S550 had airmatic as well, The '93 had the best ride between the 3 on the highway, but it had the security package so thicker glass and extra steel plates in the firewall, trunk and doors.
