Saving 2009 E350
I’ve had my 2009 E350 for 12 years (second owner) and have 235,000 miles. My independent mechanic recently determined the Engine Control Module (ECM) is not working and my car should be terminated unless a MB dealer can replace or restore ECM functionality. In reviewing MB Parts, the complete Control unit is no longer available. I would appreciate any advice as to next steps.

Ask the MB forum expert @BenzNinja to diagnose your car live over the Internet - Peter can code any necessary replacement module tailored to your specific car at a small fraction of the usual charges

Yes, the mechanic said as much…the 2009 E350 engine computer needs to be replaced and he doesn’t know how to do it, the replacement part is no longer available for this model. Is there a work around here or ?

Old chassis computers have many ways to act up investing in the wrong path or swaping good untested parts is not thf smart way to make progress.

Try to find a new ECM or rebuilt one from MB official dealers.
See the P/N on your ECM and check here : https://www.mbpartsexpress.com/
2009 3.5L is an M272.
In my country, we still can order ECM for M272, but expensive at US$3,500 ish, waiting period 30 days minimum.
Here is an experimental search I am doing for you, based on 2009 E350 from here : https://beaverdamautos.com/2009-Merc...09B428569.html
Call them :

.
Good luck....

If the car is in otherwise good condition, finding the part (new or reman) and then joining the BenzNinja Club and having Peter program the replacement for you is FAR CHEAPER than replacing your whole car. Mercedes in good condition are timeless vehicles. New vehicles today are absurdly priced and have their own set of issues. If you are happy with your car, fix it and keep it.
@BenzNinja does offer an a la carte, one-time service where you rent the equipment from him and he addresses your issue. But getting a lifetime membership pays for itself very quickly, especially since you have an older car and may need to replace parts that require coding in the future. AND being a Club Member, any other Mercedes you may own now or in the future is included in the membership. I recently had my COMAND module on my C350 somehow lose its security code and I could not use it. That also meant not being able to use my Bluetooth, Navigation, or the Radio. Peter was able to restore it by acquiring the code from Mercedes and load it using Vediamo (I think), something way beyond my knowledge or skill level. This he did remotely and saved me the time and expense of going to the dealer. Sometimes I think these cars have gremlins (or maybe just a change of weather) that make them glitchy. It's good to have a service like BenzNinja available 7 days a week to solve these problems. Another example is that BenzNinja can set the Start/Stop feature (if you have it) to last state used. I was unaware he offered that service and bought Mid City Engineering dongles for my two cars at about $160 each to do the same thing. Had I been a member of the Club at the time, I could have saved that money. Never had anything like it with my other cars (Audi, VW, Saab).

Has anyone worked with The ECU Pro? Looks like they offer testing only, repair and replace options.

Alternatively, I’m hearing from another mechanic that MB still offers a Control replacement part for 2009 E-Class with proof of ownership and registration.
