Which is very strange that lists rear diff intervals in WIS but never mention it needs to be done in the front.

I think the small comparative volume has much to do with the longevity of the lube. That's one reason I purchased a RWD Sport model.

Is the front diff fluid shared with anything else? As @W205C43PFL stated, there is no mention of the front differential in the WIS (unless it' "hidden" as happens many times).

Front axle chews up bearings routinely, the rear never does.

I believe this is caused by the wheel RPM differences.
That's true, does all the steering, most of the braking and half the driving. It also holds less lubricant.

No it is independent, the transfer case as such is part of the transmission though.

I did not say they all did, i was referring to the W212. In fact, my G wagon and my Unimog did not share with the transmission, they were separate and used gear oil

But these do:
CL500,CL550,SLK55, CLK500,E500, S430,S500,CLK55,CLS500,S550,E550, E63,S63,CLS63,CLK63

For some it is true, they share the fluid and connected, like in our 212s but on my GL class and ML class they are separate, they don`t share the same fluid with tranny.

So, those that share the tranny fluid I would want to change more frequently. And probably why the color is darker. Hope no one refills with GL5 gear oil.

Sorry for the confusion I didn't mean you said it did, I was curious if all did and if not which models, thanks for answering, your answer and the other forum members both helped answer my curiosity.

Appreciate the answers and yup sounds like we should indeed change it more often.
