Does the rear diff oil need to be changed?
So I picked up my Mercedes W212 around 6 months ago with 60k miles, it's a 2.2 diesel. I couldn't find any paperwork for the rear diff oil being changed in the past so I called up my local MB dealership to get a quote and they have told me that the rear diff oil doesn't need to be changed unless it's the AMG model? (E65 etc) is this correct or are they having me on?

I did my RWD diff. at 50kMi...
oil was in good condition but...
loaded with fine glitter from soft gears

So I invested in a neodymium diff. plug.
Problem cancelled!

On my om651 e250 4matic I changed both front and back at 105k miles, front looked like engine oil (used), rear looked basically brand new. Didnt have it tested though.

Front axle chews up bearings routinely, the rear never does.
I believe this is caused by the wheel RPM differences.
