Safety reflective triangle & reflective vest

Sharing............

I don't want to get hit by a car or a truck when I have to use the emergency lane on a highway or even on normal roads.
Highway is more dangerous as people drive faster and azz-holes do overtake using this emergency lane/shoulder , where it is supposed to be ONLY for when a car broke down.

I am in a Right Hand Drive country, so the left shoulder / emergency lane is NOT for overtaking.

$$ DOES talk here :

01 - Left is el-cheapo US$5.00 safety triangle.

02 - Middle is my W212 original safety triangle from the car. Locally it is asking US$50.00 - US$60
https://mercedesgenuineparts.co.uk/p...9XOKudhGZlZ5ub

03 - Right is my wife's Toyota Corolla Cross 2020 safety triangle. The car got two safety triangles from Toyota Indonesia.
I believe because the safety triangle is not made in Japan, hence it sucks !!!!

I bought a used BMW safety triangle.

The Bimmer safety triangle is a bit more reflective than my W212

So, I also I bought a battery powered safety triangle with 4 X AA battery, the red triangle can blink, small size though.
Middle has working light, white LED.

I bought locally two cheapo safety reflective vest and harness, the left one ( Vest ) is a big disappointment, very poor reflective strip. So I added 3M tape.

On order Class 3 ( ANSI - USA ) reflective vest from Amazon, this one :
Amazon Amazon
I can't get Class 3 locally. Only Class 2 available, from 3M.

Here is the quite common green eco-friendly type of "emergency triangle" in use, in my country, by trucks

Year 2020 archive

.

Even Jakarta city loves this green-eco thingy.....

Jakarta city, at a prime road. Its good though, leaves on branches extra height gives better visibility. .
At least we know plants grow on the earth side of the road, not in the middle of the tarmac. So small branches of leaves does good, visually.

Small city

Rural road

Latest big news, hit from the rear casualty. 31st Oct 2024.

This TV station car stopped at a highway to clean its dirty windshield, at 6:45 AM ish, bright sunlight. 3 killed. So sad.
The truck, supposedly the driver experienced micro-sleep and the truck veered to the left emergency lane.... and thus hitting the TV station stationary car.
This highway is the BAD highway I need to take when I go to Bali or Surabaya, from Jakarta.

.

I can't say if a safety triangle can help in this instant. Lets say placed -100 meters / -330 feet located behind our car, in daylight,
but if it does make noise when ran over by a vehicle, it may wake up a microsleep-ded driver.... I hope.
Visually a good reflective safety triangle at night is priceless.

I added a bit of 3M reflective tape on my trunk door. NOTE : MB rear-SAM will kill trunk light after approx few minutes after trunk door being open and kept open.
The small white reflector should add visual safety at night along with the hazard light.

My extra safety gears were actually prepared for snak-ey winding road described here : https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ad-i-seek.html
Here minimum 2 safety triangles if not 3 units...... is a must.

Now I have 4 safety triangles.

The reflective vests I placed at the right side net-mesh pocket

The emergency blinker triangle 4 X AA batter I kept at the center console glove box because trunk and more so spare wheel well is a hot zone if during long drive.
A LED headlamp 3 x AAA Energizer brand 200 lumens, low cost.... is at the center console glove box. All alkaline AA and AAA batteries I renews every two years.
One 1,000 lumens wide angle Fenix tactical torchlight with Lit-Ion 18650 on stand by in center console glove box too.
This 18650 battery I swap with fresh charge one every 6 months.

Safe drive guys.......

As in motorcycle riding, the following rule applies:
Ride like they're trying to kill you.
ALWAYS know what's around you and coming up on you.

I used to carry road flares in my car but then got concerned that they might ignite if struck from the rear. A triangle doesn't combust. However, consider that 60 mph (~100 kph) equals 88 fps (~27 m/s). That is 3.4 seconds to cover the distance of an American football field. So, place the triangles far enough back to give inattentive drivers a chance to react. The branch in the road above would do little to warn a driver at speed.

Oh, you have GOT to provide an example of where that has happened...and not as part of a fuel tank explosion. Before I moved to the amazing state of Florida we had the battery operated "flares" in a mobile MOHS lab van. One time it broke down (for what ever reason). They did not work in the cold. I dunno, something reassuring about the real road flares.....(I am sure they cause cancer in California, assuming they have not been banned there).

As for RustyIron - yeah. Pretty much the whole world is out to kill us. Either on purpose as they are so involved in how important they are...or their self esteem is so profoundly low they need to check their social media as they are piloting a multi-ton road missile. I have not ridden a motorcycle in years (mine had an issue where the front wheel was terrified of any road surface).

I am not saying it has ever happened or even could happen. It's just me over-thinking what MIGHT happen. I suspect if it ever did happen, there would have been a noteworthy lawsuit that Google would find.

UPDATE: There does not appear any incident of spontaneous road flare ignition unless improperly stored. That means the protective cap has been removed and somehow the igniter was struck. So, if keeping flares in the trunk, ensure the protective caps are in place, not facing each other, and secured so they don't bounce around.

It is also recommended not to use a road flare to light your tobacco (or other) product for you smokers!

Yeah, I had a Ducati like that for a few years.
I got rid of her before she got rid of me. Kinda reminds me of Hunter S. Thompson's Song of the Sausage Creature.
