Trunk won’t open!

I’ve been having this problem for almost a month now but today ticked me off.

The trunk on my ‘14 e350 won’t open from the key fob, mechanical key and door switch. For about a month, I’ve been opening my trunk with the mechanical key but yesterday it decided to stop working fully after I opened it once with the key, the foot lift gate lifts the trunk open a few inches but shuts quickly after. Now I can’t get the trunk open at all!

Sorry to read about your troubles. Your trunk opens then quickly shuts again...

The trunk lid puller and lock will need to be reset then retrained.

You can work on this with a $150 scanner or let your local MB specialist replace both sides of the lock module.

This 2x systems benefit from being lubricated to reduce frictions.

The lid position is tracked by the puller module using CAN-B vonnected at the footwell.

I’m in North Carolina but it’s been below freezing for the past week and it snowed 2 days ago.

Is your trunk lid hydraulicly opened and closed?

When really cold, the struts don't hold the trunk open as well. Also, it seems the cold inhibits other functions, like locking and unlocking. On my SL400, the trunk moved slowly when opening but closed down quickly. However, it would not latch. I tried manually closing it, but it would still not latch. Finally, I use the trunk control from inside the car and got it to close and latch. I'm thinking multiple activations warmed up the fluid enough to allow it to work.

Since yours won't open, maybe use a hairdryer to warm up the latch area.
