My E300 Hybrid has 102,000 miles, sometimes like 1 in 5 times it will give me the error “reverse not possible see dealer” either before I start the car or when I’m trying to select Reverse. But when I do start and restart a few times the error goes away, if I reselect reverse it will go into reverse and not prevent me into shifting into reverse. I’d just have to do it twice.
what do you guys think this may be? I’m assuming the gearbox is the 724.2 on these?
I am going to service the gearbox at 120k miles, and I’m not sure of any specifics on what I should do for it, so that this error doesn’t appear.
I’ve got a picture attached with what was scanned, and the error codes.

This a mixed bag... read fishy "expired" reason
chassis passed 100k now it needs sevice parts.
> SCAN SHOWS:
Stored CAN faults + active BMS 48Vbatt:
> OPTIONS ARE :
--1-- a legitimate reason to replace overdue big ticket item per MB schedule.
--2-- To explore the exact code setting criteria and discover how not to replace another nearly good battery. May require hazardous tweaking...
At the end if the day the battery life is down. Contact a generic hybrid shop that deal with refurb advice... Hazards involved.
Hybrid batteries are a dangerously hot topic - They heat up when aging due to INTERNAL RESISTANCE...ie. DROP VOLTAGE UNDER LOAD!!
> So basically MB draws a line in the sand at 100k to safely replace the old hazardous hot battery before it can ignite under load.
Hope choices pan out.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia issued a statement announcing a new recommended retail price of RM50,000 or about US$12,000 for the E300 hybrid and RM65,000 or US$15,600 for the S400 hybrid.
============
If new battery genuine and MB official labor, by magic can cost only say US$10,200.00 ........ it is still US$1.00 per mile driven , the cost to you.
No way in he.ll your fuel savings will ever hit US$1.00 cheaper per mile driven, or even US$0.10 or 10 cents cheaper due to hybrid per mile driven is not posiible
on MB E300 diesel.
I suggest you sell this car and take a loss, unless it has sentimental value beyond $$.
