Steering wheel control button

Hello, 2013 E350 sedan. Owned and garaged since 2015, great car, well taken care of. I’ve noticed bubbling on my control button and wondering if anyone else has this problem ? Is it easy to replace/expensive ? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Can’t figure out why it’s bubbling like this.

these genuine German plastics are covered with a film thats bubbling.... same thing goes on with the windows buttons at driver door.

This is the tip of the iceberg... same thing is happening to the engine bay: all the rubbers are aging.

I have not seen anything like that before . Well, probably buying aftermarket buttons and sticking them over should work but I'm still not sure whether or not those would work on the bubbles

Easy to replace and you can find a nice used part or try to find it new. The cheapest scenario is to peel it off and try to find a sticker kit. Sometimes this happens just from pushing a button so many times and other times it can happen because some sort of liquid or oil has penetrated the plastic coating and now it’s releasing from the button. This also happens to some of the chrome or aluminum coated parts.

Some other forum members have mentioned in the past you can buy replacements on EBay, I believe they had adequate results.

Mine didn't bubble like that but the black wore off from use. I found a nice set, left and right, on ebay and replaced them. A relatively easy procedure.
