EZS/EIS problems

I have started to have random errors with Starting, Putting in gear, SRS Airbag, ABS etc. The car will start up fine but would start acting up in a mile or two. Sometime it wont start but will after removing and reinserting the key. Sometime it wont go into drive or reverse, but pulling the key out and restarting a couple of times, it starts to work. I get the following codes.

ECM
1321 Communication with electronic ignition lock has a malfunction

TCM
U0141 CAN communication with 'CP11 (Electronic ingition lock control unit)' has a malfunction

ESP
631D00 There is a fault in 'EZS'
631E00 There is a fault in 'EZS'
474C00 No CAN message was received from "Motor electronics".
475300 No CAN message was received from 'CP11 (Electronic ignition lock control unit')
475A00 No CAN message was received from 'CP11 (Electronic ignition lock control unit')
63F900 Invalid VIN

SRS
D175 Signal 'Status of circuit 15' was not received

ISM
U016887 Communication with the electronic ignition lock has a malfunction

DSI
U016800 Communication with the electronic ignition lock has a malfunction

Many more communication messages in RMBTMFR, RMBTMFL, MRM, MFK, FSCU, AMGW

Is this a problem with the electronic ignition lock/system. Can the EIS be removed and fixed or do we have to get a new one.

I found a similar issue on SLK World.

Could this removing and cleaning the EIS help.

Appreciate the input.

You have your unstable EIS module well cornered - It has now matured to need attention.

You have options to :
A - Reboot the whole chassis back to sanity
B - Repair your nearly good keyslot module
C - Replace the EIS and code new module.

-- Professional replacement is the most comprehensive solution with necessary Xentry coding.

-- Soldering half a dozen loose pins is more reliable than new.

-- Power cycling the unstable network is the quickest. One module upsets all its partners. Chassis gets worse accordingly.

If you can tackle EIS soldering:
then you can schedule a 10mn session with your KeylessGo module located near R-SAM.

I can solder decently and would like to do that first. However, any tips on how to fish the EIS from under the steering. I can't seem to find enough room even though online videos say it should come out. Do I have to remove the steering wheel. FYI this an E63, not sure if it any different from the other models in this regard. Also, keylessgo never worked since the time I bought the car, almost a year ago. Never bothered to fix it.

Thank you

As it turns out EIS + KeylessG + (DCU's + AAC +....) + CGW
all comunicate on the same network they help make unstable... outcome: goofy modules + drained by parking.

To extract the keyslot requires a bit of patience. Definitely from the back side. It's not super well documented because of the security involved.

ALL BATTS OFF must be disconnected (GND only ok)

Your car is going to run better after each unstable module you sanitize - No mystery: I have surveyed/fixed every modules. Lastly CAN-C where ECU-TCU cooperate for seemless shifts.

Pins in EIS
Pins in EIS
I am assuming these pins that are pushed in have to be soldered. Is that correct? Is soldering one side enough or further disassembling required to solder the back side?

Thank you again.

Usually easy does it but let's see the other circuit side while we're there: "Do it once, do it right!"

Normally hot solder travels right through to other side unless we're dealing with particularly cold joints - You have to grade individual solder.

EIS made good
EIS made good

> You've missed a 3x pins near the opposite corner.

> Also we have an opto-copler that needs to be cleaned or stay dust free.

Nothing much to this nice repair!

While you there... look at solders of hot parts if they are okay. (regulator, coils, caps, tantalums,..) - 99.9 % ok.

How about the usual broken solder of the connector ? Below :

Is your EIS different ?

OXIDIZED LOOSE PINS

Yes our EIS doesn't feature the wobbly connector... it got upgraded to feature gradual oxidation opportunities.

Solderless pins are used as weak-link to concentrate increasing voltage-drop in a poor connection.... very predictable design!

I soldered the all the pins and took the car for a 20 mile drive with multiple stops. No problems or lights. Thank you CaliBenzDriver. Appreciate the help.

Pulling the EIS from the car was the biggest challenge.

Job well done, that's all there is to it!

Take another 10mn to make good with your KeylessGo: it's setup to be one of the chief vampire with a taste for fresh batteries.
