Oil leak

Hey guys I have this oil leak since I bought the car. May they be by the cooler lines? Both pax and driver sides look wet, then the middle is the obvious one. It seems like it leaks from both sides then meet at the middle.

What year is your E63S and how many miles? New owner? Are you able to get car on lift or Jack stands so you have room to remove the panels? They are easy to remove, if you are able to access…

Perhaps also share a pic or two from under the hood looking down at the timing covers etc?

every car fluid looks different.

Coolant drys out to look like white salty deposit
Oil just does not dry out.

You can check levels using owners hand-guide on cold engine.

it’s not coolant. It’s definitely oil. Ever since I bought the car, the middle portion and sides have been oily. So i know it’s oil for sure. You can smell it too when the car is hot.

Good thing, now you have this narrowed down.
  • engine : thick Black
  • tranny : thin RED/BLU < ---- likely
  • (steering) thin black

What you don't want is to keep driving on low oil.... check oil color & levels.

With complete under carriage cover and oil can be seen from external underside, that meant the leak been quite a lot pooling at the under carriage internal side.
Go to somewhere with a full height lift , open up all the under carriage cover and inspect properly.

Get a boroscope too while at it to look at the nook n cranny.

I hate oil leaks and it is dangerous when it will contaminate alternator and cause short circuit, and or....
seperntine belt...which can total loss your engine if the belt snapped and pushed into main crankshaft seal like 2 of M276 cases....and/or
your electric power steering may get oil seepage into its electronics...and/or
your CAT external may caught on fire with enough oil leak...no joke.

Basically clean it up asap and fix the leak.

I’m taking it to a shop and having it inspected. It’s late so I’ll check the color of the oil tomorrow. However, last time I saw it, it looked like motor oil. It didn’t look like tranny oil.

motor oil is easier to deal with. You can pull the engine dipstick to gauge cold oil level. Add half quart or more if needed.
