2015 E400 4MATIC
Sound system woes

Hi All,

Long time lurker. Thank you for all of the great information collected here.

My daughter had a nice 2014 E350 4MATIC that she unfortunately totaled. Funny part is, it still drives just fine, but that's a different story.

I replaced the car with a 2015 E400 4MATIC. Both cars have the "Premium Sound System". The wrecked one sounds great, lots of bass at low volumes, all speakers work.

The newer one, not so much. The bass is non existent. I also noticed there seemed to be a dead spot in the sound in the front passenger side. When I shifted the balance and fader all the way to that corner, there was no output, but as I left the setting there, and slowly turned up the volume, the speakers began to make sound, albeit somewhat distorted. Now the speakers in that corner seem to be trying to make sounds off and on.

I am curious if anyone has experience with troubleshooting whether this is a speaker or amplifier issue? I did search this forum and found similar problems, but never really a firm way to troubleshoot components.

Thanks for any help and sorry if this has been already answered and I just missed it.

there is a really easy way to troubleshoot this.
The system is fully digital and monitored.

Simply connect your good scanner to interact with the sound amplifier. You will get to read faults codes and run sound tests.

This audio system is sensitive to heat: speakers + optical integrated amps sound real good but have limited power handling.

Thanks. I signed up with Benzninja. I'll have him look at the system and see if it has any codes. Thank you for the reply.
