I inspected my car while at its ride height - unique findings

Sharing...........

Usually I use my QuickJack for under carriage inspection.
That meant the suspension system, all 4 are in droop mode.

This time, due to me preparing it a few days ahead before my departure and have it on my custom wheel stand , because I want to go to Bali at least 3-4 weeks and now is rainy season,
to be safe from potential flood, my car is lifted up on wheel stand. This meant my car is at ride height and suspension is fully loaded as is .
Like a car on alignment rack, where the wheels are normal ride height....but I have freedom to take a peek at car suspension better with my custom wheel stand.

===============

Here I realized my front left light level sensor was not "tight" if in ride-height, in suspension droop mode, this will be tight.

.

Simple fix, 2 cable ties in X pattern

.

.

.

The WIS does not have actual position data on where the clip should be...., I mean accurately to 2mm accuracy for its mid point.

Me, I guesstimate a straight line of the black plastic "stick", and call it its ground zero...LOL.

===================

Second findings
Since day 1 I used QuickJack to lift the car up, the right front at certain height when lifted up, will produce plastic "cracking" sound.
Its loud. I have always thought maybe the plastic fender liner changing shape when lifted up. Never bother to check.

If in suspension full droop mode, see the bottom of the Mcphearson strut is so low, because the spring is 100% free of compression from car weight.

At ride height, approx 500KG or 1,100 lbs is the weight each Left and Right front spring is fighting against.... the car weight.
See the red dots region, that is the cracking noise maker. RIGHT FRONT

.RIGHT FRONT

RIGHT FRONT

-------

LEFT FRONT is OK.

.

--------------------

See the rust at the base for spring of the strut, this friction been happening while also on the road I am sure, when car is "jumping" at bridge joint.
Only when jumping will the suspension experience a bit of "droop".

So I cut some of the plastic fender edge...........for RIGHT front.
I trimmed down a bit

----------------------

Actually I also trimmed down a bit of the plastic fender for LEFT front, but for the Light Leve Sensor.
It probably will touch the level sensor at certain movement height of the suspension arms...........I suspected so.

.
I trimmed down a tiny tiny bit.........

That is all............

Interesting... I have a noise with my suspension in comfort over certain bumps and with the steering wheel in certain positions, and and and, but never with any consistency to where I could track down the issue and fix it. I've been through every inch of the suspension, steering, and front half of the driveline, I definitely didn't look at fender liners though! I'll have to give that a poke!

This time I use 2 normal floor jacks and not my QuickJack. Just like below's video . I copy his design

.

The jack need to be high reach. So can not be baby sized one.

I use two jacks for safety.
1 at MB official jack pad at the 4 side/s and one more at front subframe jack pad or differential if at the rear.
I do not trust 1 jack. I got 4 jacks, 3 of 3 tons low profile high reach steel jack and one baby 1.5 tons aluminum, short reach.

As I was working on the front suspension anyway, I checked the level sensor mounts for you.

This is the left hand side. As I have airmatic, I have a similar lever on the right hand side. The mounts on the arms are very sturdy, no way I can easily move them. Something must have happened to yours as it's so lose.

Anyway, maybe this picture helps in getting the angles and position right.

Thanks my man.
I guess the u shaped clip got loose already. That clip is not sold separately from the level sensor....
When I am back in Jakarta ( now in Bali ), I will open the clip up, re-bend it and make it tight.

My bad roads probably rattled loose the clip....
