Om651 oil pressure smart valve blanking plug causes leaks!

So I installed the oil pressure smart valve a0019905317 blanking plug from Mercedes. After starting the car within 2 minutes, I noticed an big oil leak from the oil temperature sensor near the plug and also smoking near the turbo.

When you remove the valve , sometimes it leaves the large blue o-ring at the entrance to the hole, if this happens you will struggle to screw in the plug...ask me how I know. Took me 30mins to figure out !

Mine is on 200K miles now, I changed it for prevention purposes. This is the video of where to find the valve.

It should be running on 5bar oil pressure all the time now but I'm wondering if its leaking. Now because all the seals are old on the engine, anyone else had this issue ?

The pen is pointing the where the leak it coming from

not non-stop

5 Bar (73Psi) is not "all the time" pressure but a Maximum value at higher Rpm.

Idle has the same base pressure around 10 to 15Psi with or without solenoid valve.

Above 700Rpm pressure increases linearly between Min and up to Max regulated value. Pressure clearly keeps changing higher/lower based on engine Rpm.

Near 2500Rpm pressure is about 30 to 40Psi.

The regulated Max oil pressure value is reached at a lower more favorable Rpm based on your engine oil pump, oil viscosity and oil temp: near 3 to 4k Rpm and above.

Thanks for the explanation.it should be fine then . So it's a linear increase as rpm rises .

Would you recommend staying with the blanking plug or just fit a new replacement solenoid as the original lasted this long?

I have a 2015 ML250 (OM651), running great with no signs of oil related issues at 160K miles. Would you recommend I switch out the oil control solenoid with the blanking plug?

Answer is No. You have no reason to experiment with non-standard modifications while your engine has no oil related issues near 100k Miles.

Keep oil serviced on 5k Mi schedule to reduce diesel soot contaminants.
Enjoy.
