Want to have my back up camera repaired

Guys,

I’ve written about this problem a couple times the last few months. I’ve considered a couple of options to address my non-functioning OEM back up camera on my W212 2010 E350. I’m thinking of dropping it off to my dealer and having him repair it. Before I bother to do this what do you think it would cost to have them repair it? I don’t like having to use the dealer but I don’t really have the time to troubleshoot this problem. I’d be willing to pay up to $1,000 to get this fixed. Think it can be done for that?

Mike

Sure that's plenty of gravy for an hour job.

Let's see how fast the specialist is able to pin point your issue.

I'm guessing the camera cable is cutoff around the trunk hinge more so than a bad camera unit or control module.

Ok. I did try checking the harness for power with the car in reverse and there is no power so maybe it is the harness by the trunk hinge but the wires over there look fine. What could be the next step in troubleshooting it? Even if I don’t fix it I don’t mind maybe narrowing down the potential problems for the technician.

if you are not getting power and you say it's not the trunk harness,
then use your scanner for bidirectional testing.
You can also spend 30mn checking all fuses
or locate your diagram to identify that one fuse in charge of rear camera.
MB fuses don't wear out...
