Tranmission Fluid Type

I found a local seller of tarnsmission fluid with these specs and when I tried to see if it's the right type, I got mixed responses. I'm putting here to get the correct answers. They're selling 2 5-liter jugs for $60.

Gold Fluid Genuine Mercedes-Benz Approval 236.17, ATF D971

ECS's website says it won't fit. I think I need MB 236.15, not 236.17

I let you cross-ref exact spec numbers necessary...

The ultimate test is to match ATF (red or) blue color during service.

I believe that's correct, I think 236.17 is Gold in color for 2019 and newer, You likely need the blue 236.15

Do you think after 10 years of life in tranny body, it’ll show if color is red or blue? It might be black by now, I’m just speculating, never done this service.

Seasoned colors will be off by now but the remaining red/blue hue will be unlike.

If ATF is burnt black that's way pass due.
Lubricants have a limited heat range. Too hot too long gets it oxidized and shears polymers out of viscosity range.

> Service intervals....
40kMi is a fair interval for mixed use.
60kMi for highway commute.
"Lifetime service" is to rebuild tranny at 140kMi.

While searching for the 722.9 trans. filter kit, I learned that cars without code A89, reduced friction, get red fluid. Cars with code A89, mine, get the blue fluid. So, it helps to check car's data card.

It should still be blue, I believe all cars after 2011 came with blue A89 code
