Bumper Cover

Greetings. The passenger side of the bumper cover on my 2013 E350 was pulled out about 1/2'. It caught on a rock while going in reverse. Does anyone know how to repair something like this? I'd like to attempt to do the repair myself? Thanks.

The worst case : It needs to be removed and reinserted . If it doesn't make any rattles then nothing must have been broken . One of my cars (non Mercedes-Benz make ) has a similar dislocation like that . It does bother me but not that much to the point of hitting a body shop and have them repair it .
However, my W212's AMG bumper chrome bottom seems to get out of joint . I attempted to fix it but the whole trim piece needs to be taken out which is something beyond my skills . I'm not Edward China

If you talk about it opened 1/2” at the seam with the fender you may have broken a bolt hole on the cover.

I had my S550 driver side bumper cover pulled all out when a mounting stud of a concrete wheel stop caught the bottom edge of the cover. In that car there is a special clamp with a bolt that ripped the bolt hole of the cover.

If your E350 has this same kind if fastening to the fender it ripped the bolt hole on the cover if it opened 1/2”.

But I don’t know how it is made. Just look at it, Take the wheel well cover loose in the front part of it and fold over the tire. You can then see and likely fix the problem.

The clamp in my car holds when the bumper cover is correctly in place as it is clamped with the bolt in that special clamp.

In general, that is a pretty easy fix for someone even slightly handy. You should be fine just looking and figuring out what to move. I would start by taking off the tire and pull back the liner, you will see what is disconnected.

My car had the same issue where a stud of a concrete wheel stop got the bottom of my front bumper and I have the same half inch gap, same spot. @Zephyr, If you end up taking off your wheel, please take pics and share with us. Thx.

You don’t even need to remove the wheel. Just turn it away from the problem, i.e., if damage is on passenger side turn wheel all the way to left. Then take the wheel well liner loose in front half and fold it down and over the tire. The problem with the broken bumper cover bolt hole is right there.

And as earlier explained this is an easy fix with just positioning the bumper cover back in place between the sides of the special bracket or whatever is there and tightening the bolt.

Even if a bumper has a mount ripped off (I don’t think this one does), tools and techniques exist (plastic welding and kits with new universal screw mounts) that seem to work well.

Years ago, my wife came home with a dent something like the famous Camry dent in the rear bumper of her Tuscon that she put into it. She was practically crying. I looked it over for a few minutes, and made one hit with my built in body hammer (my fist). Welding, painting, timing chains, suspension work on my cars failed to impress her. That one impressed her. It actually impressed me!

Thanks to everyone for your replies and suggestions. I ended up removing the fender liner and clips, and noticed that where the sheet metal meets the plastic bumper cover, the lip on the metal was pulled forward. The alignment pin on the bottom edge of the cover, as well as on the top, were in place. So, I took a shop towel and folded it a few times and held it onto the lip. I then swung a 3lb hammer and started to bang the edge back in. The sheet metal was much stronger than one would think, so I had to swing pretty hard. Probably a good 25 swings. It did improve the overall appearance of the fender/cover joint. Not factory perfect like the other side, but that's alright. The only thing is, on one of the harder swings it glanced off the edge and put a not too deep scratch in the paint, even through the shop towel. There was also a crack in the paint where I was hitting it, which is hard to see. I'd probably use a denser material to protect the fender if having to do it again, though. Overall, the job was worth it. If I can ask, what would a pro have done in a similar situation? Would he hit it with a similar type hammer or is there another way/method to use to do the job professionally? Also, if anyone can recommend a fastener kit for this particular vehicle, 2013 E350, I'd appreciate it. Thanks again.

If you like reading heres a link to the manual to look thru: https://lemon-manuals.la/Mercedes%20...d%20Diagnosis/

Has everything you could want, removing panels, gap dimensions, paint correction etc.

Which fasteners are you looking for? You can use the following link to look up the part #'s of the ones you want. With your vin clink on your submodel, then for bumper parts look in section 88 Attachment parts: https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/epc/mercedes/1/212/

I've had my wheel well liners off a few times and mangled a few plastic fasteners. I found the part #'s and ordered a bunch from AliExpress pretty cheap.

For scratches I bought a 6" DA polisher. I've had good luck removing alot of scratches or making them look alot better with Meguiars Ultimate Compound on my W204. I find the paint pretty hard so it takes alot to screw up and ruin it with the polisher.
